While the UK continues to dither about whether or not to unleash e-scooters onto its streets Paris, which has over 150,000 e-scooters for hire is ramping up its approach to electric personal transport.
Working with sustainable energy innovation engine EIT InnoEnergy and micromobility infrastructure firm DUCKT the city has launched an e-scooter charging infrastructure pilot programme which will the installation of 150 dock, lock and charge points across the Paris Rive Gauche area of the city. The charging stations can be plugged into advertising boards, bus stations and street lighting to deliver a power source.
As well as being able to pep up batteries of hired and private e-scooter the initiative is also designed to highlight how the city is striving to cut its carbon emissions. It has already committed to banning diesel cars by 2024 and oil-based motors by 2030..
The scheme will be deployed in the second quarter of the year.
Hortense Becheux, Sales Manager France at EIT InnoEnergy, commented: “Micromobility is in the driver’s seat as Paris and other major cities like Barcelona and London decarbonise.”
